Protect Your Skin in Spring
| 27Mar2018Looking forward to spring? Then it’s time to get your skin in shape for warmer weather. Winter can really damage skin, as colder temperatures and dry air take their toll on the skin. As a result, the skin gets dry and dull, which can exacerbate skin issues – oily skin becomes inflamed, wrinkles get more noticeable, new pimples break out with every passing day, and blackheads are also commonplace when the protective function of the skin is compromised.
Here are some simple skin care tips to follow to help prepare your skin for happy, healthy skin:
DIET:
You are what your eat, so be sure to include fresh fruits and vegetables in your diet every day. Avoid foods high in starch, sugar and high-fat. Add a vitamin-mineral supplement to your daily nutrition, particularly Vitamin D3, the sunshine vitamin. Be sure to drink 6- 8 glasses of water daily, water hydrates the skin, keeping dryness, flakiness at bay.
FOLLOW A 4 STEP SKIN CARE REGIMEN TWICE DAILY:
Use skin care products based upon your specific skin type.
Cleansing/Exfoliating: For effective cleansing in the spring, use a stronger cleanser that what you were using in the winter. Exfoliation helps get rid of dull winter skin, but instead of harsh scrubs that contain scrubbing particles, use a scrub that contains an alpha or beta hydroxy acid for gentle exfoliation that won’t damage your skin. Try Loma Lux Acne Pill to naturally relieve and prevent acne. It has 5 all natural minerals that are taken like a vitamin to relieve and help prevent acne without the irritation of topical acne treatments.
Toning: Use a stronger toner in the spring that what you typically use in the winter.
Moisturizing.Switch to lighter based moisturizers appropriate for your skin type. Make sure it contains an spf of at least 30 to provide your skin with sun protection.
Weekly: Use a masque, either purchase a masque based upon your skin type or have fun making your own mask using natural ingredients that you might have on hand at home, such as yogurt, fruits. You can find many recipes online.
Though a hot shower is a great way to relax and unwind, it isn’t great for your skin, as it strips away moisture, leaving your skin dry. Instead, opt for lukewarm water while bathing and washing your hands.
SUN PROTECTION
Be vigilant – as sun damage is cumulative and permanent. Use a minimum 30 spf sunscreen daily and when out in the sun, be sure to re apply a sunscreen every 2 hours. In addition to sun protection, sunscreens also protect your skin from hyperpigmentation (brown/age spots). Tanning Beds are a no no, they cause skin cancer. To get some spring time color, spray tans work well and do not damage skin.
Spend 15 minutes a day outdoors to get your daily dose of Vitamin D3.
SPRING CLEANING
Toss out old cosmetics and skin care products that are old, especially lip and eye products, they should be tossed after 1 year to keep bacteria away. Wash cosmetic brushes regularly.
