SPECIFIC LOCATIONS OF PSORIASIS:
Face
Facial psoriasis lesions typically erupt on the upper part of the face such as eyebrows, forehead, ears, hairline, and upper lip/nose.
Genital region
Inverse psoriasis is the common type of psoriasis that affects the genital area. The outbreaks generally develop on the upper thighs, pubis and between the thigh and groin area.
Hands, Feet & Nails
Psoriasis can appear on the upper/lower extremities, including nails, which result in their swelling, cracking, and blistering.
Scalp
Along with affecting the scalp, psoriasis can spread to the forehead, nape of the neck, and region behind the ears.
Skin Folds
Various skin folds including the underarms, the groin, under the breasts and around the genital organs may also be affected by inverse psoriasis. The condition is aggravated by excessive sweating and rubbing.
SEVERITY OF PSORIASIS
Only a doctor is qualified to evaluate whether a person has psoriasis and also evaluate the level and severity of psoriasis. However, as a helpful guideline, you can determine the extent of psoriasis by yourself using your hand’s surface area as a measurement. Generally, a hand size represents 1 percent of your whole body’s skin area. The levels are:
MILD Severity – indicates that less than 3 percent of your skin is affected by psoriasis. Most psoriasis sufferers, 4 patients out of 5, have mild psoriasis.
MODERATE Severity – signifies that about 4-10 percent of the skin area of a body is afflicted with psoriasis.
SEVERE – means that the body is covered by more than 10 percent of psoriasis.
