Are you over treating your acne?
| 12Jul2017Don’t over treat your skin:
Using strong skincare products and over applying makeup to cover up acne can actually cause a rebound effect – over-drying the skin causes the skin to compensate by producing excessive amounts of oil. In addition to using Acne Pill, here are some great skincare tips:
Cleansing tips:
Wash 2 x per day – plus right after working out/perspiring
- Use a gentle, non-abrasive cleanser (no deodorant soap)
- Avoid vigorous scrubbing to reduce irritation
- Use your fingertips to gently clean skin
- Do not use a washcloth or sponge
- Avoid products with scrubbing particles, as they can irritate the skin
- And make acne worse
- Rinse with lukewarm (not hot) water to further prevent inflammation
- Avoid hard water, as it prevents cleansers to do their job properly,
- Leaving soap scum that can clog your pores.
Moisturizing:
Moisturizers help restore the skin’s pH balance & soothe dryness/flakiness:
- Choose: Oil-Free, Non-Comedogenic (won’t cause acne) formulations
- Don’t use any moisturizer that contains retinol or salicylic/alpha-hydroxy acids –
- They can cause flaking/peeling
- Use sparingly – if your skin is very oily, apply only to dry/flaky spots
Use a sunscreen:
Sun exposure will NOT dry up your acne! In fact, the inflammation that results from Sun exposure will WORSEN acne. Melanoma is now the most common form of cancer in young adults – in particular, using tanning beds before the age of 35 increases your risk of developing melanoma by 75%. Using benzoyl peroxide & retinoid products will increase sun sensitivity. Be smart – wear sunscreen daily!
